Not overacted, either - and not a lot of "music" fillers or any background stuff. I actually LIKED the separate "voices" of DEATH and the "footnotes." Usually I like one narrator for the entire book, but this was well done. Much to my surprise - and delight - it was excellent. And anyway, since this book was never released before, I took the plunge and bought it. If you dropped the treble and upped the bass, it was just muffled, not improved. No amount of adjusting made them sound better. I'm not terribly picky about sound, but it was obvious that the old versions wouldn't play on modern speakers. Since I had never heard this one, it was the "new" version or no version. The thing is, a lot of the older books have become unlistenable. This is one of two books that was never released with the "old narrators," either Nigel Planer or Stephen Briggs. I was afraid the new version would be bad but. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this. The first book in the Discworld series – The Colour of Magic – was published in 1983.
